Opatija: Just Russians the target?

After I wrote an article today about how some of our landmarks and heritage are being devastated in this Country, I accidently found this article in a local newspaper from 2010, whereas the mayor announced a large scale “men hunt on all foreign investors”  where he would personally knock on every door!!

belogolova 399407S1 291x300 What happend to arouse our Mayor so much that he want’s to get a hold of every foreigner? The owner of a villa in Opatija, Russian National  Anna Belogolova (she was murdered actually in 2011), had cut down some hundred years old pine trees on her own plot. After an attempt to get to the vandal of this act of crualty against nature (of course the owner does not life in the house), the Mayor promised a quick new law which will nobody in Opatija allow to cut down vegetation without a permission. Later it showed that the pine trees in question were not even located on the plot of Villa Paisa, than on the neighboring plot and Mrs. Belogolova denied any responsibility.

But that was not the only reason for the anger of the Mayor.  The main problem, he says, is that most of these people do not pay their utulity bills and do not life here. So these “phantom owners” which life, or do not life, in Opatija will have to pay their bills as any other person.

Just a quick reminder:  A large number of owners of the most valuable objects in Opatija are Russians.

Getting back to my article from today : Opatija : The devastation of Villa Münz were the owner is not a Russina citizen, no phantom company or any other person which can not be made responsable, but still nothing is done to prevent devastation of a landmark. I’m sure that a couple of pine trees are more important.
